Return sermon shared on Sunday, November 29, 2015.
In this lesson, we look at the 2nd chapter of James and see that believing needs to be coupled with obedience. If we just say we believe, but do not obey the Word of God, we are kidding ourselves.
Specifically, the “works” James was speaking of here were reaching out to the poor and needy. Jesus’s ministry here on the earth was to preach the gospel to the poor and then to help those in need. The entire law is fulfilled in this command: to Love God and then to love people. This means all people and we are to especially reach out to the poor.
A lot of Christians today are fans of Jesus but not followers. Followers are those willing to deny themselves and allow Jesus to disrupt their lives as they live in reckless abandonment to the will of God.
