Return sermon shared on Sunday, December 27, 2015.
Giving Alms, Praying and Fasting are three spiritual disciplines that all Christians should partake of in their daily lives. In Matthew Chapter six, Jesus speaks of all three. They are like a 3-fold cord that, when twined together, is not easily broken.
To fast means to cover the mouth and abstain from food. Israel’s big sin in the wilderness was lusting after food instead of being content with the manna. Sodom’s big sin was a lack of prayer, a lack of fasting, and a lack of giving to the poor.
In this lesson, we look at Isaiah 58 and again see the need to pray, fast, and give to the poor with compassion. This awesome chapter in the Bible promises some great rewards for the believer that will fast with the right motives.
