Return sermon shared on Sunday, February 21, 2016.
When we can begin to really believe that our Old Man is crucified with Jesus at the cross and we learn to reckon ourselves dead to sin, then we can begin to walk in the newness of life, or walk in the Holy Spirit. This is our “New Man” (Jesus Christ) living His life through us, the life that we could never possibly have lived through our Old Man.
The Bible says to “put off the old man and put on the new man,” (Ephesians 4:20-24). Since our Old Man is dead, we should not go and put him back on. This would be like putting a corpse on our bodies and wearing it. If we do this, then the poison, disease, and death of the corpse will seep into our being and make us sick or kill us.
We are to live through the lenses of our New Man and see ourselves like God sees us when He looks at us. Religion will call you a sinner, a saved sinner, but God calls us a Saint that sometimes still sins, there is a big difference. Religion is working on your Old Man that has already been crucified with Jesus on the cross, while God works on establishing your true identity, which is the righteousness of God.
Colossians 3 says we are dead and our life is hid with Christ in God. God sees us hid with Christ, or God sees Jesus when He looks at us covered in the precious blood of His Son
