Communion is about our personal, intimate relationship with God through the broken, poured out, given away body and blood of Jesus Christ. It is where our brokenness meets the brokenness of Jesus. Jesus gave thanks, broke the bread, and then gave it. Communion is all about thanksgiving, brokenness and giving. Jesus told us to do this in remembrance of Him. This means bringing the past to the present, or to bring Calvary through the veil of time and eternity to the present tense. Our chronic amnesia in forgetting God is present, forgetting God is the head, forgetting about Jesus' broken body and poured out blood is the root cause of all of our problems. The unity, oneness, intimacy, and personal relationship we crave and long for, must be found in God first. By communion with God through Jesus Christ, then we can find that unity, oneness, and communion with our brothers and sisters. Communion is fellowship, it is giving away into the community, it is going to the least of these and allowing the love of God to flow through you to others.
