The Roman soldiers wore shoes with spikes on the bottom to help them fight both defensively and offensively. The word of Gospel means “Good News”. The Gospel of Jesus Christ should never be minimized because it is the best news you will ever hear. There is no other gospel or some better gospel. The problem is that people think the gospel is too good to be true, so they go looking for a works based gospel where they can be their own savior. Religion tells you to believe, then do good works or keep the law, then you will be accepted by God. The Gospel teaches us that we are to believe, then we are accepted by God, then you will obey out of gratitude instead out of obligation and fear. The early church in Galatia was in danger of perverting the gospel until Paul stood up to Peter face to face to set him right on this key element in the Christian faith.
