The first 14 verses in the book of Ephesians are actually one long verse in the Greek language. In this text the apostle Paul clearly establishes who we are in Christ. Our true eternal identity is received from God, not achieved by us. We are not who we are because of how we behave, we behave the way we do, because of who we are. We all are either in Adam or in Christ. In Adam we are a sinner, but in Christ we are Saints. In Adam we are our old man, while in Christ we have a new man, a new nature or a new identity. Satan gave Eve a false identity when he told her that she could become like God. When we try to make something temporal like people, careers, ministries, or things we buy into our identity it means that we have an idol in our hearts. Anything outside of Christ that we try to find significance, value, worth or identity from is rooted in idolatry. Learn to live out of your true identity in Christ and your life will be transformed.
