Suffering is unavoidable to the believer and the unbeliever. Life is full of pain and suffering. The problem with pain and suffering is that it can cause someone to doubt God’s love. Christians may not be aware of this, but underneath, in their subconscious, they wonder if God really loves them as they endure suffering. There are perhaps thousands of reasons that Christians suffer and we should never have one pat answer as to why someone is suffering. A big problem with suffering is that many ideas from ancient and eastern religions have crept over into modern Christianity and if we believe any lie about God or His plans or purposes, then the lie has the power to control our lives. The great comfort to the believer is that Jesus came to this earth as the suffering servant. The wounds of God show us that our God suffers with us and He walks through the furnace with us.
