God is the Supreme Ruler, Magistrate, Master, Lord and King over all His creation. Mankind is His created subjects. The very first Commandment God gave His chosen people establishes this Truth.

I am the LORD thy God
— Exodus 20:2

All other Commands and the total authority of God over His subjects are based on the first Commandment. Above all, God establishes His Lordship over all He has formed and created.

For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else
— Isaiah 45:18

The struggle and war that has existed in creation in both Heaven and Earth, in eternity past and in time, has always been over “who is in authority,” or “who rules.” This was Lucifer’s downfall and ultimate demise when he tried to exalt himself above God. And God ultimately cast him out of Heaven.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit
— Isaiah 14:12-15

The same spirit of pride and rebellion against authority that ruled in Lucifer’s heart was passed onto mankind in the Garden of Eden and has ruled the hearts of mankind since the fall. You can read the entire third chapter of the Book of Genesis to get a full account of the story of the fall of mankind.

The question is not, nor has it ever been, whether God is God, or whether God is the Supreme Ruler. God has already established over and over again that He is Lord and that He rules Supreme over His creation. The question is whether we, His creation, accept, embrace, believe in and live under His ruler-ship, authority, and dominion.

He is Head over all things to the Church.

And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church
— Ephesians 1:22
Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all
— I Chronicles 29:11

All mankind has turned from the dominion of God and has gone astray walking his own way.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way…
— Isaiah 53:6

Part of coming back to God through Jesus Christ’s Redemptive Work is choosing also to come under the authority and governance of the Supreme, Eternal God. Jesus is the Way that leads us back to the Father, back to place of fellowship and union with the Creator, back to our origin, back to walking under His Kingship and Authority. This is accomplished by choice in time, but it will be accomplished by force in eternity upon those who have not bowed their wills and confessed the Lordship and Authority of God in time.

For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God
— Romans 14:11
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father
— Philippians 2:10-11

We love God by obedience.

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous
— I John 5:2-3

We know God through obedience.

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked
— I John 2:3-6

We are blessed with happiness by obedience.

If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them
— John 13:17

True and sincere acts of obedience to the Authority and Lordship of God in the believer’s life are an act of worship that flows from a heart of gratitude.

Giving of ourselves in obedience is our reasonable service or act of worship.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service
— Romans 12:1

Obedience is better than sacrifice.

And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king
— I Samuel 15:22-23

At the end of all of Solomon’s searching for wisdom and understanding, he came to a very sobering conclusion.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man
— Ecclesiastes 12:13

The ultimate end of the ministry of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, is to bring down all rule, all authority, and all power of mankind. All these things are considered enemies to God and His Kingship.

Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet
— I Corinthians 15:24-25

The message Jesus Christ will reveal to creation upon His second coming is the re-establishing of His Kingly authority and Lordship over His creation. All creation will eventually and ultimately be brought back into obedience to the creator and God shall, once again, be ALL in all!!

And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all
— I Corinthians 15:28
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS
— Revelation 19:16

Many people have Jesus in their hearts and know him as Savior, but few ever accept Him as Master, Lord, and Ruler of their lives. It is our choice to do this or not, and it is His desire that we do. This pertains to, and is all about, our personal love relationship with Jesus Christ.

Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am
— John 13:13
