Mankind was created by God in a perfect state of existence in the image and likeness of God.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:27).

However, man fell from this place of perfection by disobeying the commands that God had explicitly given him. Please read the third chapter of Genesis for the complete story of the fall of mankind. Through man’s disobedience to God, sin entered the human race, causing all human life to be subject to sin.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12).

Mankind became sinners by birth and sinners by deed.

“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me” (Psalm 51:5).

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

Without the Redemptive Work of Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross and His Resurrection, mankind would forevermore be lost and damned in his sin.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

There is nothing mankind can do to redeem himself. Most religions teach a path of works to gain access to eternal life after death. However, there is only one thing that can redeem man and that is the Redemptive Work of Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross.  Living a good life cannot save man. Meditation cannot save man. Good works of charity cannot save man. Outward adorning, washings, and various religious ceremonies cannot save man. All these things, and many more not mentioned, are all futile attempts of the creature to come into contact with the Creator. Only Jesus, the faithful Mediator, is the way back to God.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (I Timothy 2:5).

Mankind has tried throughout centuries to live within the framework of a law, which in turn would purchase him/her eternal favor with God. However, God’s Word teaches us that if we break the law in one point we are guilty of breaking the law in all points. Obedience to some code of ethics or moral laws cannot save us.

“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all” (James 2:10).

Mankind in his fallen state has no power of self-redemption. Creation is lost without God and His precious, unspeakable gift, His Only Begotten Son, Jesus!

“Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift” (II Corinthians 9:15).
